Alex Chueh unexpectedly found himself in the boat-manufacturing business when he lent money to a friend to start a boat yard in 1973. His friend was unable to repay him, so Alex accepted the boat yard as payment. A successful entrepreneur in Taipei, Alex realized his passion for high quality building and utilized his business experience to become one of the finest yacht builders.
Alex Chueh established Ocean Alexander Yachts in 1977 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan when he formed a partnership with well-known naval architect, Ed Monk Jr. When Alex fell ill in the late 1990’s, his son, Johnny Chueh, stepped up to run the family business as Ocean Alexander’s President.
Ocean Alexander works with world-renowned interior designers to provide customers with seagoing luxury aboard vessels engineered for optimal performance. Some of Ocean Alexander’s notable manufacturing technologies include: the use of FEA (finite element analysis), which allows for virtual assembly of yacht models and systems, and the pioneering of aluminum I-beams for added strength and durability.
Ocean Alexander’s models range from 72 to 155 feet. The 50-foot Mark I Classic, designed in 1977, was the shipyard’s first yacht launched from the Kaohsiung yard. A few decades later, the prestigious 155-foot Tri-Level Megayacht was launched as a collaboration of the Ocean Alexander/Christensen alliance.
