Established: 1873
Located: 3 Shipyards in Italy (Viareggio, Fano & Leghorn)
Construction: Fiberglass, Composite, Aluminum
Category: Megayachts
Worth Noting: In 2009 Benetti introduced a massive construction hangar at their shipyard in Darsena, which allows Benetti Yachts enough space to assemble and complete 3 megayachts up to 164′ (50m) long, at the same time.
Lorenzo Benetti founded Benetti Yachts in 1873. Benetti Shipyard is home to one of the oldest yacht building yards in Europe. After their father’s passing, sons, Gino and Emilio, took over the company and renamed it Fratelli Benetti.
Benetti began building wooden boats used for local and international trade; however, the company shifted direction after World War II and started producing pleasure crafts made from steel. With six Italian shipyards, Benetti has manufactured nearly 300 boats and currently has 36 yachts under construction.
Benetti builds composite megayachts ranging from 93 to 164 feet and fully custom steel and aluminum superysachts from 47 to over 55 meters. In the early 1980’s, Azimut acquired Benetti’s management, forming the Azimut Benetti Group, the world’s largest shipyard in terms of yachts produced.
